Jen & Kevin | Engaged!

Josh and I had the opportunity to meet Jen and Kevin for the very first time a few weeks ago in Chicago for their engagement shoot. Because we are primarily destination photographers now that’s often how it goes for us. We exchange a few emails and maybe chat over the phone a couple times but never get to put a face with the personality until all the papers are signed and we’re set to shoot their wedding. I’m blown away that so many people trust us to shoot the most special day of their lives without actually meeting in person. It’s truly an honor. So I was really excited to meet in person the people who we’d bonded with over the computer. I knew right from the beginning that Jen was going to be fun and her finance would have to have a heck of a sense of humor to keep up with her. Jen and Kevin did not disappoint. They were a blast to photograph and hang out with. They were super playful, a little goofy, and pretty romantic. We never had to que these two to kiss or be sweet to each other. They did that all on their own.

It’s always our goal to build a rapport with our clients and quickly gauge their personalities so we can begin to capture who they really are as a couple. That’s what makes what we do so great. We could shoot an engagement session every day in the same location but the results would never be the same because the couple always brings something different to the table. We feel so blessed to get to do what we love for a living and hang out with new and interesting people all the time.

I’m really excited to see these two in October for their Chicago wedding. It’s sure to be memorable. For now, enjoy some of the highlights of their West Loop engagement shoot in downtown Chicago.

Leah & Paul | Married!

Looking back at these pictures, you would think that Leah and Paul’s wedding was held in the dead of winter. However, they were actually married at the end of March in Evanston, IL. Typical to Chicago you never know what to expect regarding the weather. The day earlier it was sunny and sixty, the following day was pretty nice as well. But what I love about our Chicago couples is they never let the weather get in the way of having a great time.

Leah and Paul are really amazing people. They are so warm and kind. They seem to be a perfect fit and the love they share is very complimentary and supportive. Their ceremony held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church was humorous, emotional, and moving. I would describe myself as spiritual but not necessarily religious and often times the tradition of a religious ceremony goes over my head but I was genuinely captivated by their service and will always remember how poignant it was. Their reception was nothing short of fabulous too. Leah spent a lot of time making sure all the little details were perfect and it really showed. The Venutis banquet hall was meticulously decorated and so elegant.

Amy & Matt | Engaged!

On our last visit to Chicago we caught up with Amy and Matt to shoot some engagement pictures in their Gold Coast neighborhood and around Michigan Avenue. We got so lucky the weather held out for these two. It poured moments before and after their shoot. I don’t know if everyone has had the privilege of witnessing a Mid-West summer thunderstorm but it’s quite the spectacle and definitely not a time when you want to be walking around with a big umbrella. However, Josh tells me all the time how much he loves shooting right after a good rain because all the lights appear super colorful on the wet ground and you can do some creative stuff with reflective puddles. I have to agree with him. Those shots always seem a little more magical.
So Amy and Matt were pretty good sports about the weather and got all dolled up for us anyway. We had a really good time just walking the streets of downtown Chicago chatting and getting to know one another. I’m really looking forward to shooting their wedding at the Lincoln Park Zoo’s Cafe Brauer in August. I know it will be gorgeous!
