Over the past year we have had the honor to have three of our weddings published in The Knot’s wedding magazine. As a photographer it is always a great honor to have your work published in print. Of course, we can’t take all the credit. We have to thank our couples who continue to dream up and design amazing weddings that inspire us. Those who know me best, know that I am wedding obsessed. I frequent all the major wedding blogs, troll other wedding photographers’ websites, and get involved with as many local wedding events as my schedule allows. I always want to know about the latest trends and have planned my wedding (even though I am happily married already) a million times over. For all these reasons, I jump for joy when I receive confirmation that one of our weddings will be featured in one of my favorite sources. It’s so cool to be able to contribute to the inspiration of future brides.

Now a little about Bill & Janine’s wedding. They were married late last year and hosted one of the hippest receptions we have ever attended. Their venue of choice was Ravenswood Billboard Factory in Chicago. Ravenswood Event Space was originally an industrial printing & design complex that Hayes Properties converted into an extremely unique urban venue with original brick walls, loft ceilings, and open spaces that can accommodate up to 500 people comfortably. The showroom where Bill & Janine held their wedding reception is home to the Hayes collection of Neon signs and one of America’s most impressive collections of prestige automobile & sports cars. The venue doubles as an extremely colorful museum.

What I like most about Bill & Janine’s wedding design was they choose to embrace the brightness and eccentricity of the space rather than covering it up. They decorated their reception with vibrant pink, yellow, and orange elements along with colored LED lights that complemented the neon perfectly. Their party had an urban lounge vibe which encouraged their guests to dance and celebrate like rock-stars well into the evening. It was truly a night to remember.

Katie & Mark | Married!

Katie & Mark are charming people and their wedding was absolutely enchanting as any zoo wedding should be. They were married at Brookfield Zoo this past June. Their decor matched the venue flawlessly with bright colors and elementary flare. Their day was full of sun filled fun with merry-go-round rides, interactive bears in the new Great Bear Wilderness Exhibit, and emotional moments.
Katie has a magnetic energy and you just can’t help smiling when she enters the room. Mark has a quiet gentleness about him. Together they compliment each other perfectly. We had a wonderful time getting to know these two awesome people and their amazing families on their magical day. I’m pretty sure these photos capture the range of emotions that filled their wedding but I’ll let you decide.

Pam & Brian | Married!

Pam & Brian were married during my absolute favorite time of year, cherry blossom season, in mid-spring. Here in Portland the streets are lined up with pretty white and pink flowering trees and it just seems so magical… the start of the new year’s life cycle with a hint of summer in the air. The perfect setting for a wedding!

We started our day with Pam’s family as she got ready in her parent’s Naperville home. I adore the beginning of a wedding day because the air is filled with nervous excitement and poignant moments with close friends and family. Plus, I get to see the DRESS and the SHOES. I’m such a girlie-girl in that way. I am always buzzing with joy waiting to see the beautiful bride buttoned up in her stunning wedding gown. Pam did not disappoint. Her dress was classically unique and complemented her frame perfectly. Pam looked amazing!

Once the gals were ready, they jumped in their limo and headed off to Cantigny Gardens where they met up with Brian and the groomsmen. Brian and Pam choose to see each other for the first time amongst the grand weeping willow trees that line the front lawn. They shared a private moment alone soaking up the overwhelming emotions that came with their wedding day. We always encourage our couples to have a “first look” before the ceremony for a variety of reasons but the most important reason is it slows down the day so there is more time for fun and photographs. It definitely helped them relieve some of the anticipation and relax too.

After spending some time in the park taking portraits we headed to Holy Apostle Greek Orthodox Church in Winchester, IL for their traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony and then to Cog Hill Country Club for their wedding reception. Their reception was elegantly designed with lavender and candle lit lanterns. The decor was simple and sophisticated and the party was full of traditional Greek dances and modern beats. We had a blast as always and it was such an honor to spend the day with such lovely people. We hope you enjoy the highlights!

Angie & Mike | Sneak Peek

Whoa! Today I realized it’s been close to a month since we updated. We are bad, bad wedding bloggers. Well despite the internet silence on the wedding blog we have been extremely busy. Lots of traveling, and lots of great photos in the works. Actually lots of great things in the works in general, and a few announcements coming up hopefully in September when we actually get some time to sit down and catch up. In the meantime enjoy a preview image from Angie & Mike’s wedding that has just entered the post production phase!

Venutis & St. Nicholas Catholic Church Wedding | Leah & Paul

Looking back at these pictures, you would think that Leah and Paul’s wedding was held in the dead of winter. However, they were actually married at the end of March in Evanston, IL. Typical to Chicago you never know what to expect regarding the weather. The day earlier it was sunny and sixty, the following day was pretty nice as well. But what I love about our Chicago couples is they never let the weather get in the way of having a great time.

Leah and Paul are really amazing people. They are so warm and kind. They seem to be a perfect fit and the love they share is very complimentary and supportive. Their ceremony held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church was humorous, emotional, and moving. I would describe myself as spiritual but not necessarily religious and often times the tradition of a religious ceremony goes over my head but I was genuinely captivated by their service and will always remember how poignant it was. Their reception was nothing short of fabulous too. Leah spent a lot of time making sure all the little details were perfect and it really showed. The Venutis banquet hall was meticulously decorated and so elegant.
