Oregon Landscape Photography | Continuum Mom

Last week my mom drove up from California and met Melissa and I in Bandon, OR. where my cousin Lani lives. Now being a city person I’m not going to lie and tell you that there is much in Bandon aside from scenery, but the drive south along the Umpqua River is nothing short of fantastic. Unless you hate trees, then I’d really suggest taking another route. Actually if you hate trees you should probably just avoid Oregon altogether. My mom traveled up to Portland to visit there too, and we took her on a tour of some of the falls along the Columbia River. Here are a few of my favorite shots taken over her visit.

We were surprised to learn we already had a headquarters waiting for us in Bandon.

To say people in the Pacific Northwest like coffee is an understatement as evidenced by this tanker truck filled ENTIRELY with coffee.

This is my mom.

As it turns out the Multnomah Falls aren’t too shabby looking either. In fact Oregon on the whole is quite handsome.

Lauren Test Shoot

I thought I’d post a couple of favorites from my test shoot last night with Lauren, our fabulous hair stylist. Our friend Janet discovered Lauren a few months before Melissa and I moved to Portland. Janet’s pretty particular on hair people, and had even been traveling up to Chicago to get her mane cut when she lived in St. Louis because it takes a talented set of hands to shear her locks. She raved about Lauren immediately when we asked for awesome PDX hair recommendations. Lauren will make your hairs happy, it’s a proven fact. In addition to keeping me from blending in too much with the lumberjacks, Lauren is also a blast to photograph. So the two of us have a photo project that might be a little long term, but is going to be a ton of fun to get into in my (spare?) time in the coming months. So stay tuned!

Johanna & Christen: Family Portrait Session [Portland Family Portrait Photographer]

We recently had the opportunity to photograph Johanna and Christen, twin sisters from Florida. One twin now calls Portland home, so when the other sister came to visit we had an awesome portrait session in picturesque Mt. Tabor Park. Family portrait sessions are a great way to connect with the people most important in our lives. With such amazing beauty in the city of Portland there are never any shortages for fantastic locations to shoot.

I met Melanie randomly a few years back photowalking with a Flickr buddy, who in the midst of a photowalk needed to make a jewelry pit stop for a present. So I found myself hanging out in a ritzy jewel store waiting for said buddy to pick out something good for his lady. I struck up a conversation with the small and lively jewel specialist by the name of Melanie and ended up photographing her a few months later. Since then Melanie has been a subject of portraits, dinner companion of Melissa and I, and unparalleled Star Wars fan. A few weeks ago I got a message from her saying her friend had entered her into a national reality TV show and she needed headshots. So we had her over, got her hopped up on caffeine and here are some of the results.

If you hang around me long enough you will eventually be photographed in the Party Glasses. The Party Glasses have been with me for many years, and I’m not exactly sure where I acquired them from. But I do know this… they don’t fit anyone and most of the photos of people who are wearing them are holding them in place with one hand or leaning their head back to keep them from falling off.

Robin and Ryan decided they were up for a little urban adventure for their engagement shoot, so Melissa and I took them on a tour of some of the areas near our loft in the West Loop of Chicago. We managed to miss the buckets of rain we were getting in the days before the shoot, so even though it was a bit overcast we couldn’t really complain. Here are some of our favorites from the day.
