Our friend Janet discovered Lauren a few months before Melissa and I moved to Portland. Janet’s pretty particular on hair people, and had even been traveling up to Chicago to get her mane cut when she lived in St. Louis because it takes a talented set of hands to shear her locks. She raved about Lauren immediately when we asked for awesome PDX hair recommendations. Lauren will make your hairs happy, it’s a proven fact. In addition to keeping me from blending in too much with the lumberjacks, Lauren is also a blast to photograph. So the two of us have a photo project that might be a little long term, but is going to be a ton of fun to get into in my (spare?) time in the coming months. So stay tuned!

I got started Yelping back in mid 2006 in Seattle. I wish I could say it had been wonderful service that led me to start reviewing in the first place like some have, but unfortunately that was not the case. Yelp like any online review site is to be taken with a grain of salt, and I’m just as guilty as the rest of the extreme love or extreme hate reviewers out there. I used to think I was a pretty casual reviewer, but apparently I have a lot more reviews than the average user. Of course this may also be due in part to the large number of silly reviews I post on establishments such as fast food joints or convenience stores… I mean really, how good can it possibly get? While I haven’t delved too much into the Yelp community in terms of participation in Yelp events (I did actually photograph one awhile back), I have gotten to meet Colleen C., the official Chicago Yelp Ambassador. If you’re wondering what a Yelp Ambassador is, well they are the party coordinating geniuses behind all of the events that Yelp promotes. They also write a bunch of newsletter type notifications and set the example in reviewing all sorts of places. Colleen happens to be completely sweet and vibrant, and was easily coerced into sitting for me some studio fun.
